Scope and Contents

Personal papers and correspondence of Professor Emerita Janet Zollinger Giele from approximately 1952-2006.  Contains a significant number of published papers authored by Professor Giele, as well as notes and correspondence relating to various conferences she has attended and speeches she has delivered.  Most published papers are from between 1961 and 2002, with a few more recent.  The collection also includes copies of Giele's grant applications, paper drafts and handwritten notes, as well as copies of papers by other scholars related to her own work.  Giele's research on aging and the life course, changes in women's gender roles since the 19th century and social and family policy makes up the primary subject areas of the collection.  It also features a number of Giele's course syllabi and documents relating to her employment as both a teaching faculty member and as acting Dean of the Heller School.
