Scope and Contents

This collection includes offprints of articles and publications by various scholars of Judaic Studies, as well as a number of articles written by Professor Emeritus Alexander Altmann (1906-1987) himself. This collection includes materials in English, Hebrew, German, and French.

Professor Altmann served as the Philip W. Lown Professor of Jewish Philosophy and History of Ideas in the Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis from 1959-1976.

Early accession records are not detailed, but it appears these materials were donated to the Archives in approximately eight accessions by Professor Altmann, between 1968-1981.

Collection was reorganized by the archives to facilitate research use.
