Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials related to the career of John M. Lowenstein (1926-2012), Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at Brandeis. Documents include materials related to the Biochemistry Department at Brandeis, teaching materials, research materials and publications, as well as correspondence.

Professor Lowenstein worked at Brandeis from 1958 until his retirement in 2008. In addition to teaching as a professor of biochemistry and running a research lab, Lowenstein held the Helen Rubenstein Chair in Biochemistry from 1974-1995. He also served as chair of the Biochemistry Department during the 1990s.

Custodial History

These materials were transferred to the Archives in one accession from the on-campus office of John M. Lowenstein by Carol Mackenzie, Biochemistry Department Administrator, in 2013. This was with the permission of Professor Lowenstein's son, Charles Lowenstein, and Ken Buechler, a representative for the estate of Professor Lowenstein.
