Scope and Contents
This collection spans the years 1948-2002 (bulk, 1986-1999) and focuses on the promotion of Brandeis programs, projects, and special events including: the 50th anniversary celebration, the Alumni Achievement Award, the Brandeis Forum, campus construction projects, commencement, the Energy Conservation Project, Founders' Day, presidential inaugurations, and the creation of the Sakharov Archives. In addition to news clippings, publicity materials, and speeches, the collection contains meeting minutes, admissions statistics, press releases, correspondence, photographs, administrative reports, and biographical information on Brandeis presidents. Topics of particular interest include Evelyn Handler's resignation as University President, E. L. Doctorow's controversial commencement address, community protest against the creation of a cogeneration plant on campus, the status of students of color at Brandeis, and divestment from South Africa.
