Abstract

Here we had a few poems by Helmut Hirsch. Throughout his life, Hirsch developed various artistic endeavors from painting to writing. The first poem in this folder is dark in nature. The opening line - "Du jetzt ist es ja dunkel und wir sind allein" translates to "It is dark now and we are alone" . This poem could allude to the feelings Hirsch had at the time as the political climate in Germany was beginning to escalate. The next poem appears to have been a work in progress, as evidenced by the corrections and pen markings. Third, is a poem "Wann es Abend werd " (When the evening comes) that resonantes with the first poem in this folder.
