Abstract

This literary work by Helmut Hirsch is titled "Das Kälbchen : Die Geschichte eines Antilopenkinds von Helmut Holk", which translates to "The Calf : a story of an antelope child". We also see that Hirsch has also changed his last name to "Holk". It opens with a short poem Hirsch composed before the story begins. The story opens with the setting that is a beautiful March morning at the zoo. Hirsch has sections labeled based on the characters such as - Die Mutter, Johann Kapperer, Ein kleines Mädchen, and Ein bunter Falter. We also get illustrations such as a young fawn getting bottled feed. a fawn and a girl looking through a fence. This work highlights the well-roundedness of Hirsch's artistic endeavors. The work itself is typed with hand drawn illustrations.
