Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection comprises manuscripts, books, photographs, and correspondence of the Spitzer family, originally from Germany. Much of the collection includes materials from David Spitzer, a German rabbi who died in Theresienstadt: a large Hebrew handwritten volume on the Bible, Jewish holidays, and Talmud; a rare volume in Hebrew, with a German translation in Hebrew script; typewritten local histories; and documents related to his education and career.   Other materials relate to David Spitzer's sons, Bruno and Harry, as well as other family members. This includes correspondence about immigrating to the United States, correspondence and documents about the Masaryk Society in Boston, personal documents, family photographs, and materials of a general historical nature, such as World War II ration books.
