  • Biographical Note

    Pauline Trigère was an award-winning, French-born American fashion designer whose designs were especially popular at the end of the 1940s and into the 1970s. Her innovations include the use cotton and wool for evening wear and imaginative outerwear designs, such as reversible capes and coats in all shapes and sizes. Trigère was also known for her use of fur trims and for introducing the jumpsuit in the 1960s.

  • Scope and Contents

    This collection includes approximately 250 letters, memos and notes written to and from Pauline Trigère and members of her family, including her brother, Robert (often called Sioma), her two sons, Jean-Pierre Radley and Philippe Radley, her (ex)-husband, Lazar Radley, and her longtime friend Julio Werthein. The letters are mix of both personal and professional and were written between 1908 to 2002 with the bulk dating from 1920s to the 1960s. Over half of the letters are in French and the rest are in English, with one or two in Russian.

    The original order in which the letters came to the department has been retained.

    In accordance with donor's request, selected letters and documents in folders 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are restricted. The rest of the collection is open for research.
