This collection is comprised of 15 letters written by German ex-pat Herman O. Pineas (of New York, NY) to Noreen Leibson over the course of many months, beginning with the first letter dated August 31, 1982 to the final dated October 19, 1983. The two became friends as Pineas frequently retreated to a resort where Leibson worked in upstate New York. In approximately four of the letters, Pineas writes about his life throughout the First World War and Second World War as well as his experiences of persecution at the hands of the Nazis, and his escape (two times) from the Gestapo in Vienna in 1943. It is also mentioned that by various means he was saved from the concentration camps.
