Charles (Charlie) S. Fisher is an Associate Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Brandeis University. He was born in 1938 on the South side of Chicago. His father was a German-Jewish merchant from New York and his mother was from Ukraine. In 1960, Fisher entered the University of California at Berkeley to study mathematics. Then in 1967, the Sociology Department at Brandeis University hired Fisher. He taught at Brandeis until his retirement in 1997. Fisher is interested in humans and their relationship to nature. This includes the character of the human mind and its impact on social life and how the human-transformed environment affects behavior.
