    Eric M. Lipman, the compiler of this collection, served as an Army Master Sergeant during World War II, specializing in enemy documents collection and evaluation. He was a native of Stolzenaw, Germany, and graduated from the University of Geneva before emigrating to the United States in the late 1930s to escape the Holocaust. Following the war, he remained in Europe and served as a field investigator for the Nuremburg Trials. After he was honorably discharged in 1946, Lipman worked in different countries, from Europe to Central and South America, in the industrial machinery industry. In 1950 he moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he became an executive of the Cardwell Machine Company. Eric Lipman died April 17, 1992.
