    Max Planck was a German theoretical physicist whose discovery of energy quanta won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. He made any contributions to theoretical physics. His fame in the physics community rests primarily on his role as the originator of quantum theory. In 1948, the Kaiser Wilhelm Soceity was renamed the Max Planck Society (MPS).
