    John Patrick Spiegel was an American psychiatrist, and expert on violence and combat stress and the 103rd President of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Dr. Spiegel, a native of Chicago, received his bachelor`s degree from Dartmouth College in 1934 and his medical degree in 1938 from Northwestern University School of Medicine. He later taught at the University of Chicago and Harvard University, also holding a medical position at Michael Reese Hospital. He joined Brandeis University, where he headed the Lemberg Center for the Study of Violence from 1966 to 1979.
