Sidney Allen Gunn, a Professor at Boston University, was an authority on Gaelic and Irish cultures. Gunn recevied his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard. It was at Harvard he met fellow classmate and friend President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He taught French at Brown University then went to MIT in 1908, and St. John's College where he headed the English Department. From 1916-1924, he was a civilian faculty and curator at the Naval Academy.
