Walter Goldwater, a book dealer who specialized in radical politics, and who was also one of the first book dealers to specialize in African American Studies. He was also a tournament chess player and antiquarian who owned the University Place Book Shop - one of the last survivors of New York's Bookseller's Row. Mr. Goldwater was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and had a collection of early printed books, mostly from the 15th century. He died in 1977 in New York City.
